Janice Kenworthy Painter

Janice is a Winnipeg-born artist who has had a passion for painting since childhood when she was introduced to oils. Mainly self-taught, Janice has taken some gallery courses including several while residing in Toronto in the early 1990s. At the Art Gallery of Ontario she studied watercolors and botanical drawing. Returning to Winnipeg after spending a year in France, she sought a more liberating style and in the late 1990's she turned to acrylics.

Her unique style revolves around acrylic paint applied over a dark ground on canvas and the deliberate use of slightly skewed line work. A perfectly balanced palette inhabits Janice Kenworthy’s compositions of still lifes, lake images, Manitoba scenes, urban portraits, and farm life. The end result is an image the viewer may be familiar with that they will experience in completely different way.
