Robert Kurkowski PotterBorn in Bismark North Dakota, Robert was largely raised in Fargo ND. After serving in the U.S. Navy he received his degree in Studio Art from the University of Minnesota in Morris and then returned to the Fargo area. He worked for the Fargo Public Schools for 28 years helping to found the nationally recognized and award winning Creative Arts Studio. Robert retired from his position as the Director of the Creative Arts Studio in the spring of 2003. Since then he has concentrated his efforts on his own studio. It is in his Marbakka Studios, near Christine ND, where he creates raku and stoneware ceramics - both sculptural and utilitarian. Robert has received many awards for his works which have been called "whimsical, captivating and beautiful". He is one of the founders, past president and chairman of the FM Visual Artists, which is an organization for professional artists in the FM area. He is also a registered artist in residence for the North Dakota Council on the Arts and serves on the Board of Directors of New Bohemia, North Dakota. |
