Lisa Townsend photomontageIt was the repeated phrase ‘big sky’ from my dad that started this whole process. I was studying architecture at U of M and always enjoyed the fine art aspects of the projects. During my studies the artist David Hockney and his photomontages really caught my attention. After a few attempts to assemble a montage like his, I took my multiple sky photos a step further and began to cut them all up. With these small squares I was able to reassemble the prairie sky into a new and enhanced version of the view I originally began with. The first ‘big sky’ photomontage that I finished was for my dad’s birthday and that’s when I realized how much I enjoyed what I could do with photos. Since then, I carry my camera with me everywhere I go and always keep an eye out for a new and unique view to create. |
